The Drawing Board: Honoring Douglas Munro
Posted by Christopher Lagan, Friday, September 27, 2013
On this day in 1942, Signalman 1st Class Douglas Munro made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his country as he gave his own life to save the lives of 500 U.S. Marines at Gudalcanal. Each year, on Sept. 27, the Coast Guard family remembers Munro in a variety of ways. On the 71st anniversary of his death, we invite you to visit Coast Guard Compass and read a first hand account from Master Chief Petty Officer Jason Vanderhaden, command master chief for the 13th Coast Guard District, on why Munro still matters.
