Shipmates, welcome to Coast Guard All Hands, the official blog for the Coast Guard workforce.

Upon assuming the watch as Commandant of the Coast Guard I told you we would embrace the use of social media as a means of communicating the value of our Service to the American taxpayer. We have done so in a variety of ways. Through Coast Guard Compass, for example, we make meaningful connections with more than two million readers by sharing Coast Guard successes through campaigns like the Shutter Shootout and Video of the Year and each time we honor a Shipmate of the Week.

Coast Guard All Hands will be your blog. Much like the All-Hands sessions I have conducted with thousands of you around the world, it will be a blog focused on two-way communication directly with the Coast Guard workforce along with their families. Via All Hands articles you will be able to learn about the latest policy changes, the expansion of military benefits or get some tips on how to study for the next servicewide exam. In addition, All Hands will provide a forum to weigh in on these issues, offer advice to your shipmates and offer your feedback to senior leadership.

Coast Guard All Hands will also candidly discuss the challenges and issues we face as a Service and how we will tackle those challenges together in a manner consistent with our core values of honor, respect and devotion to duty while we successfully execute our missions to protect and defend the Nation, respect our Shipmates and continue to serve as a model for coast guards around the world.

My wife and your Ombudsman At-Large, Linda Kapral Papp, has spent the past three years focused on making our Service a better place for Coast Guard families. She consistently champions the importance of strength and resilience on the homefront to help ensure we are able to successfully carry out critical operations to protect and defend our Nation. All Hands will be a place that family members can also gain access to information on decisions that affect them and offer their feedback as well.

I encourage each and every one of you to make visiting Coast Guard All Hands part of your routine whenever connectivity permits. Please take the time to provide feedback in the form of comments, share the stories with your shipmates and take advantage of the ‘Submit Ideas’ button to tell the staff what you want to hear more about.

Semper Paratus. Stand a taut watch.
24th Commandant Admiral Bob Papp
