Tis the season … for crafting the right career for promotion

It’s that time of year again. Shopping list season. If you’re due to transfer next summer, now is the time for career counseling.


Seven members from Coast Guard Port Security Unit 308 were on the road within six hours Oct. 12, 2018, to assist Coast Guard Station Panama City in the Hurricane Michael relief effort. The team spent the weekend assisting by setting up tents, generators and supplies for incoming emergency responders and station personnel.

There is always a better way: Policymakers, researchers consider approaches to reducing Reserve suicides

In the past five years, 10 Coast Guard reservists have died by suicide, an average of two a year. That percentage is lower than that of other military branches and on par with the civilian suicide rate. It’s also small enough that statisticians and health professionals have difficulty pinpointing patterns that would provide the ones left behind reliable answers or contexts.

Reserve boat crew colleges: Honing skills

Reserve boat crew colleges have been successfully conducted for many years throughout the Coast Guard as a way for reservists to get a concentrated dose of instruction. Station Cape May recently hosted a two-week reserve boat crew college with members from stations Cape May, Atlantic City and Philadelphia and members from Aids to Navigation Team Cape May.
