From the Commandant: Those deserving of our highest honor

Multiple times a year, I visit Arlington National Cemetery Multiple. Every time I walk those hallowed, 624 acres, I am struck by the incredible sacrifices of those many brave souls. And, as I look out at Arlington’s sea of white gravestones, I am hit with the realization that this is not every loss–it is only a small number of those who have served our Nation, many who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

On Memorial Day our Nation remembers the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in our armed forces. It is a day to honor the memory of our brave men and women who trained hard, served dutifully, fought, and died to secure our Nation and protect our freedoms.
