For more than 241 years, our country has been a beacon of freedom and liberty for all who seek it. As your Commandant, I am grateful to lead our organization; one that serves as both a protector and guarantor of those ideals for nearly 227 years.


The newest ‘Ancients’ – Introducing the Gold and Silver Ancient Tridents

Today the Coast Guard inducted the first Gold and Silver Ancients Tridents, Rear Adm. Linda L. Fagan and Master Chief R. Shane Hooker respectively. The tradition of naming a Coast Guard community’s “Ancient” dates back to 1966, when aviators created the Ancient Albatross, a title developed to recognize the longest serving pilot in the Coast Guard. The Gold and Silver Ancient Tridents are titles given to the officer and enlisted member who have served in the Marine Safety community the longest. The Marine Safety field operations include vessel and facility inspection, waterways management, pollution response and marine casualty investigations.

What happened at NACON 2016

The National Coast Guard Auxiliary Conference was recently held in Phoenix. This was a time for more than 300 Coast Guard auxiliary, active duty, reserve and civilian members to come together to discuss not only the mission, but fellowship together as well. The Commandant and other senior leaders attended the conference to thank the auxiliary for volunteering their time and skills, to praise them for their successes, and to provide direction for the next year. Students portray greatest single rescue in Coast Guard history

Over the past year a team of students from the University of Alabama have traveled across the nation compiling video and conducting interviews for an upcoming documentary on the U.S. Coast Guard’s response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
