From the Homefront: Special needs advocate named Coast Guard Spouse of the Year

When her son was first diagnosed with autism, Mary Nelson struggled to find the right services for him. She didn’t know where to go or whom to ask for help or information. Little things compounded and they became big issues. Since then, she has aimed to make sure no one else struggles in the same way. Her efforts earned her this year’s Armed Forces Insurance Coast Guard Spouse of the Year award.

As Military Spouse Appreciation Day approaches this week, one Coast Guard spouse has been honored for her commitment to connecting and supporting others. Jennifer Mullen has been selected at the Armed Forces Insurance Coast Guard Spouse of the Year for 2016.

Stacey Benson was selected as the 2015 Armed Forces Insurance Coast Guard Spouse of the year by Military Spouse Magazine. She is looking forward to focusing this next year assisting military families. “It’s so overwhelming and I am so incredibly honored to be selected for this position,” she said. “I just hope that I can continue to help as many military spouses as I possibly can.”
