ALCOAST 203/18 – Vice Commandant of the Coast Guard

Adm. Charles W. Ray relieved Admiral Charles D. Michel as vice commandant of the Coast Guard. Ray most recently served as the deputy commandant of operations, where he led the development of Coast Guard operational strategy, policy, guidance, and resources to address our Coast Guard and National priorities. As the first four-star vice commandant, Michel led the Coast Guard to three consecutive clean financial audits and oversaw an acquisition program that continues to deliver state-of-the-art assets – on time and on budget.

ALCOAST 202/18 – MAY 2018 REMEMBERING THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR ALL: 50 YEARS AGO IN VIETNAM

Memorial Day is a solemn day when we honor the memory of those who fell in action during our nation’s wars. This Memorial Day, over 50 years after the Coast Guard began combat operations in Vietnam, we pay tribute to the eight Coast Guardsmen who made the ultimate sacrifice so far from home.

ALCOAST 201/18 – MAY 2018 AWARD OF THE HUMANITARIAN SERVICE MEDAL FOR HURRICANES IRMA AND MARIA RESPONSE

In honor of the contribution of Coast Guard personnel in support of rescue and recovery efforts following Hurricanes Irma and Maria, the Humanitarian Service Medal (HSM) is authorized for Coast Guard military personnel physically present in the area of eligibility between Sept. 6 and Oct. 20, 2017. In accordance with the recommendation of REF (A) and the criteria outlined in REF (B), Coast Guard service members who directly participated for one or more days in the humanitarian and disaster relief support are awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal.

ALCOAST 200/18 – MAY 2018 AWARD OF THE HUMANITARIAN SERVICE MEDAL FOR HURRICANE HARVEY RESPONSE

In honor of the contribution of Coast Guard personnel in support of rescue and recovery efforts following Hurricane Harvey, the Humanitarian Service Medal (HSM) is authorized for Coast Guard military personnel physically present in the area of eligibility between Aug. 23 and Oct. 31, 2017. In accordance with the recommendation of REF (A) and the criteria outlined in REF (B), Coast Guard service members who directly participated for one or more days in the humanitarian and disaster relief support are awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal.

ALCOAST 199/18 – MAY 2018 2018 SOCIETY OF AMERICAN INDIAN GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE (SAIGE) MERITORIOUS SERVICE AWARD WINNER

Congratulations to Chief Petty Officer Sheldon Williams, chief electronics technician at Surface Forces Logistics Center, Alameda, CA, as the Coast Guard’s recipient of the 2018 Society of American Indian Government Employee (SAIGE) Military Meritorious Service Award. This award honors military members who have supported the Service’s mission and significantly demonstrated support for inclusion and promotion of government personnel to include American Indians through government programs and/or community outreach.

ALCOAST 198/18 – MAY 2018 2018 NATIONAL IMAGE MERITORIOUS SERVICE AWARD

This ALCOAST solicits nominations for the 2018 National IMAGE Meritorious Service Award. The award honors service members and civilian employees who have supported the U.S. Coast Guard’s mission, or whose attributes best epitomized the CG’s Core Values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty, throughout the performance period January 2017 to December 2017. The IMAGE Meritorious Service Award is open to Coast Guard service members (active duty or reserve) and civilian employees.

ALCOAST 186/18 – MAY 2018 MASTER CHIEF PETTY OFFICER OF THE COAST GUARD

Master Chief Petty Officer Jason M. Vanderhaden relieved Master Chief Steven W. Cantrell as the 13th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard. Vanderhaden most recently served as the Command Master Chief for Coast Guard Deputy Commandant for Mission Support. Cantrell’s leadership, guidance and support for our workforce was invaluable during one of the most ambitious and exciting times in the history of our service.
