ALCOAST 089/18 – MAR 2018 2018 EXCEPTIONAL SEXUAL ASSAULT RESPONSE COORDINATOR (SARC) OF THE YEAR AWARD

Nominations for the Coast Guard Exceptional SARC of the Year are now open. The Department of Defense Exceptional SARC of the Year Award is presented each April to an individual (military or civilian) from each military service. This program recognizes individuals whose work in the field of sexual assault prevention and response has been particularly noteworthy and demonstrates outstanding service in support of our service members. Nominations are due by March 19, 2018.

ALCOAST 088/18 – MAR 2018 GOOD ORDER AND DISCIPLINE DATA

The Good Order and Discipline data for the first quarter of fiscal year 2018 has been posted. The Good Order and Discipline data and summary is a compilation of the disciplinary and administrative actions taken when Coast Guard military and civilian employees fail to uphold the high ethical, moral, and professional standards we share in the Coast Guard.

ALCOAST 087/18 – MAR 2018 2018 CONTRACTING CAREER OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM (CCOP)

This ALCOAST announces the continuation of and solicitation for the Contracting Career Opportunity Program (CCOP). This three-year program is intended to provide members who will be eligible for retirement in 2022, at the end of this program, the opportunity to satisfy the requirements for Federal Acquisition Certification in Contracting, a career growth opportunity that addresses the Coast Guard’s current and forecasted shortfalls in qualified contracting professionals, and provides a potential career opportunity (post-military) for qualified Coast Guard members who have already decided to retire during the Summer of 2022.

ACN 030/18 – MAR 2018 PROMULGATION OF RISK MANAGEMENT COMMANDANT INSTRUCTION

This ALCOAST announces the promulgation of REF (A). In collaboration with Commandant (CG-1), FORCECOM, and Areas, REF (A) updates the roles and responsibilities, procedures, and requirements for the conduct and training of risk management. These policy changes apply to ALL personnel involved with planning, conducting, supervising, and monitoring Coast Guard activities that can pose safety risk to personnel and equipment. Units have 12 months to implement these changes.

003-18_ACN AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR (AED) USE IN THE COAST GUARD

As outlined in REFs (A) through (F), specific Coast Guard entities such as firehouses, port security units, cutters with assigned independent duty health service technicians, air stations, and diving units are authorized to carry and use AEDs. All authorized Coast Guard entities using AEDs as discussed above must coordinate with either their cognizant Coast Guard clinic or with the Coast Guard Health, Safety and Work-Life Service Center to obtain appropriate required medical oversight for their AED programs.
