With the upcoming changes in TRICARE taking place in January 2018, you may have questions about what actions you need to take to ensure TRICARE coverage. First, all beneficiaries should ensure their information is correct in DEERS .

Here is what else you need to know:

There is Automatic Transition for Current Enrollees

If you are currently enrolled in TRICARE Prime then you will remain enrolled in TRICARE Prime throughout the transition. If you are currently enrolled in TRICARE Standard then you will transition to TRICARE Select . If you are enrolled in a TRICARE Premium based plan (TRICARE Young Adult, TRICARE Reserve Select, or TRICARE Retired Reserve) then you will remain enrolled in your respective plan as long as you continue to make the required premium based payments. There are no significant changes to the TRICARE For Life (TFL) benefit, so those beneficiaries do not need to take any action.

There is Automatic Enrollment for New Enrollees

New active duty service members (ADSMs) will be automatically enrolled in TRICARE Prime. If active duty family members (ADFMs) live outside a Prime Service Area they will be automatically enrolled in TRICARE Select. ADFMs who are automatically enrolled have up to 90 days to change their health plans.

There will be an Enrollment Freeze Starting November 20

Beneficiaries need to complete any enrollment actions by Nov. 20, 2017, for coverage staring in January 2018. During this enrollment freeze beneficiaries will still be able to receive care, but there will be a delay to change your health plan and primary care manager during the entire month of December 2017. If you have experienced any qualifying life events (marriage, birth, divorce, or death), update DEERS prior to November 20 to ensure TRICARE coverage. To change your primary care manager visit this link. To enroll in a different health plan visit here.
